Rog Roper recently made his come back, sadly after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, a couple of “tweeks” have taken their toll (back). This along with a trip to Ireland, will see him missing for a while.

Justin Henderson returns to action with the ”A” team squad, this Saturday. It is several months since he broke his ankle, which ended a unbroken run of 63 consecutive games for the 1st team. A welcome addition to the 1st / reserves in the final few weeks of the season.

Darren Williams has transferred back to Brading Town from Vics. He will play for the reserve side, as he is unable to play 1st team ( Wessex ) football this season. Another boost to the reserve side. ( Game was postponed )

Dave Moore has also returned to the club after a short break at Bembridge FC..nice to se him back. His playing return has been interrupted by the weather but he enjoyed the 1-3 win at W & B recently. Gives extra depth to the reserve squad, esp with his left foot service.

Finally, our best wishes go out to Fordy, sadly he suffered broken ribs & a punctured lung in the mid-week derby against Newport. Keiron will be missed on the field, in the dressing room, and in the clubhouse. Get well soon.

Good news!!  Great to see ” Fordy” at the game on Saturday, after he was released from hospital, following a 2 day stay.

Take a bow…..

The new Chairman Chairperson Chairwoman and committee would like to thank all those who attended the EGM. It was 1st class turn out, and hopefully the start of a prosperous era.

Michelle Egleton was elected as the club’s new Chairman, with Paul Morris elected as her deputy.

A new committee was formed, and there was certainly no shortage of people willing to give the club their time and energy to BTFC.

All the young dudes………

Another Colt makes his bow.

Fast on the heels of Paul Davis, Ben Armstrong made his full “A” team debut at Vicarage Lane yesterday. He played on the left hand side of midfield in the “A” team’s emphatic 5-0 victory which kept them top of Combination 1.

He played the full 90 minutes and also scored 2 terrific goals, and had an excellent all round debut. He was a constant threat down the left side and as well as scoring he linked up well and provided several other opportunities.

Paul Davis again made another substitute appearance and was denied his debut goal by an outstanding save by ex-Romans keeper and friend of the club Stu Pardy. Paul again showed some nice touches and along with Ben are two excellent additions to the club.

Jake Brougham turned in an excellent performance on the right and with young Leo having another very accomplished game in the middle of the back four, the future looks very bright indeed. Ryan Davey gave another hard working performance in midfield in a team that is starting to gel together, very well indeed.

We won’t talk about the 2 penalties that we missed yesterday (both saved by Stu Pardy) but needless to say that the two very experienced players that missed them may be having extra practice !!!!!!

With more player’s stepping up to the reserves and some even getting  first team action, the youngsters will be getting an opportunity in the “A” side, so as said before things are looking very good on the pitch, keep up the good work boys or should I say…Young Men.

FIRST OF MANY……….WE HOPE.

When Chris Colwell and myself came to the club to ask that the Colts become integral within the senior club, it was our hope that our youngsters would filter through the youth section and into the senior sides. When we joined we only had Under 13’s, Under 12’s and Under 10’s, but we had plans to have sides from Under 8’s up to Under 16’s. This season was the first time that we have managed to achieve that with 11 youth sides in total.

Over the last couple of years first Broughy, then Hitchy and then Tim Lewis brought their Oakfield Under 15’s over to Brading to play Under 16 football in the Mid-Solent league. This has paid huge dividents, if you look at the reserves and “A” team at the moment it is largely filled with youngsters that have come through the ranks. I have played with and watched these players over recent weeks and the future on the pitch at Brading Town FC is very bright indeed.

Last Saturday at Seaclose in the Brading “A” v Oakfield Res game we had a first, and Chris, Phil Moore and my own hopes had been realised. The first player to come up through the youth system and make his debut in the “A”  team. Paul DAVIS, who has been in my youth sides since Under 9’s, came on as a substitute with 15 mins to go. Paul is a big, strong , good old-fashioned centre-forward with a good attitude and the ability to score goals, of which he scored many in youth football. He is also currently playing for the Under 16 “A” side and has also been selected for the County Squad.

Another player who has just signed forms is “BENNO”,  Ben ARMSTRONG, brother of Simon who has already made a huge impact at the club. Ben is another excellent player who can play up front, wide or in midfield.

These are the first two of a large group of players we have within the youth section who I believe will come through the ranks and into the senior set-up. I coached the 2 under 16 squads last night (Monday) and there are a good few capable of stepping up next season. The under 13’s have an exceptional side, if you get the chance please watch them and if they are not snapped up will definately make the senior set-up.

Also not forgetting Stuart MOORE who has signed for 2 years at Portsmouth, after being a Colts goalkeeper for 5 years.

So well done Paul Davis, let’s hope it’s not long before you are scoring goals for the ” A “ team, reserves and hopefully one day the 1st Team.

STEVE LAWTON, CHAIRMAN OF THE COLTS.
